IMG_3156 STEPHEN PORTER Searsmont, Maine
Stephen Porter is from a family of artists. Steve has an MFA from Cornell University and taught sculpture and computer design at Penn State for almost three decades. His work is in public, private and corporate collections throughout the country. Perhaps best known for his mirror polished stainless-steel sculpture, Stephen Porter creates work in granite, wood, and powder coated aluminum. His polished stainless sculptures reflect and amplify their surroundings and highlight their places as elegant focal points. He does his own meticulous fabrication and constructs pure geometric forms. He does models of potential pieces that can be seen in his studio and he works in all scales. He will have examples of his work at various stages so you can see his process. His woodworking and welding studios are within a post and beam barn. He will have his sculpture on display in his barn and on his rolling fields surrounding his historic country home. Limited to 12 participants.

IMG_7211IMG_7100 smallPETER DRANSFIELD AND DIGBY VEEVERS CARTER Somerset Foundry West Bath, Maine
The bronze casting process transforms a unique sculpture in wood, clay, or wax to an edition that will last outdoors through the seasons. The process is complex and often will be poured in many parts and must be reassembled. Each step is an art in itself and incredible detail is achieved with the resulting bronze sculpture lasting hundreds of years. From mold making, to casting, polishing, and final patina, artists Digby Veevers-Carter and Peter Dransfield will give a tour of the Foundry. Some of their finished pieces will be on display. Digby has most recently shown his Greenman and Sentinel (Owl) in my exhibitions both composed of Oak leaf forms. I showed his huge bronze Dragonfly at the College of the Atlantic and Wells Reserve and his Mosquito at Maine Audubon. Peter Dransfield has had his bronze dog, Loyal, Chickadees, and Balance (goat) shown at Hawk Ridge Farm and Wells Reserve. Other artists have their work cast at Somerset as well, including: Dan West, Rebekah Raye, Ray Carbone, Cabot Lyford, Cynthia Stroud, Miles Chapin, John Bowdren, Andreas von Huene, and Mark Pettegrow. Limited to 10 participants.

Kinetic sculptor, George Sherwood, works in stainless steel and his pieces become animated by the wind. I have featured his work at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens and his exhibition called “Wind, Waves & Light” that has since toured botanical gardens throughout the country. His sculpture is now being included at US embassies with sculpture in Africa, Hong Kong, and China. His studio is a massive post and beam arts and crafts styled barn and is filled with current projects as well as models for future work. With degrees in both engineering and art George started as a performance artist. His studio houses the tools where each piece is fabricated for his stainless-steel and dichroic-film sculptures. He works on all scales and will have work both inside his studio and sited on his rolling hills and open vistas. Limited to 12 participants

DSC09501DAVID ALLEN Sebago, Maine
David Allen works in stone in all scales at Stone Point Studio doing public and private commissions. He seeks balance and harmony with the setting in all his work. Over 20 years of creative trade and art experience have contributed to his distinctive style that combines naturally occurring materials with various shapes, geometric patterns and forms. This unique blend of technical skill and artistic vision come together to produce artwork that celebrates the beauty of natural materials in both an artistically creative and visually accurate form. Some of the simplest forms are the most difficult to achieve as he will demonstrate in his tour. David will show the rough cuts, grinding, and polishing techniques to bring stone to a refined finish. He lives on a high rolling landscape in Sebago looking over mountains in the distance. A skilled photographer, he frames this view in his large stone constructions that can be seen throughout his property. Limited to 12 participants.

IMG_1190ANDREAS VON HUENE Arrowsic, Maine
Masterfully engineered and executed, Andreas has been awarded commissions throughout Maine and has work in schools, libraries, and hospitals through the Maine Arts Commission’s Percent for Arts program. He has also sold work all over the county to individual patrons. Owls have become one of his signature themes; some are balanced soaring on one wing, others hang from tree branches. Andreas is an artist with a degree in engineering from Stanford. He has participated in the Schoodic Sculpture symposium, the Viles Arboretum Symposium and others. I selected Gyre Falcon from William Hamill’s collection for the Portland International Jetport that can be seen just outside ticketing. I have shown his Owls for years but also standing stone plinths with surface relief carving. His studio houses his equipment and tools for fabricating metalwork and models for various commissions. He works on his large stone pieces outside, using the natural light. He has placed massive pieces in his wooded landscape for this studio tour. Limit 10 participants
