June 25: George Sherwood – Sculptor

George Sherwood‘s kinetic sculptures are both highly refined and elegantly simple as they move with each breath of wind. Inspired by nature, his abstract work is reminiscent of flocks of birds, schools of fish, shimmering leaves or waves of light. Most recently I featured his sculpture at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. A celebrated artist in collections throughout the country, George will share his background and inspiration with slides and videos.

July 9: Ken Ryan – Maine Coast Taijiquan

This will be an opportunity to participate in a class of Qigong, an ancient practice which centers and circulates energy in the body by integrating physical postures, breathing and focused attention.  Ken Ryan is the founding director of Maine Coast Taijiquan and has studied Yang and Chen Style Taijiquan leading classes at his studio in South Freeport and Bowdoin College. This practice can be a part of integrating the inside with the outside world enlivening that interaction. We will “Embrace Earth” as one of the standing meditation postures.

July 16: Phil Coupe – Revision Energy & Bill Ginn – Homeowner

Entering our third year, Hawk Ridge Farm is now solar. ReVision Energy installed our array along with 5,000 other buildings in New England. Since 2003, ReVision Energy has been building its staff of 100 to serve as is a renewable energy company contracting engineering, design, installation and equipment for homes, businesses, and nonprofits. Bill Ginn will share our results and Co-founder Phil Coup of Revision Energy will present information about going solar in Maine.

July 23: Wendy Klemperer – Sculptor

Wendy Klemperer works in salvaged steel and welds animated animal sculptures.  I have featured her work in exhibitions at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens and Maine Audubon, called Re-imagined where sculpted mammals that once lived in the region (Caribou, Mountain Lions, Wolves and Elk) were shown on the Maine landscape with common species such as White Tail Deer, Porcupines, and Fox. Her installation at the Portland Jetport, donated by William Hamill, called GLIMPSE includes her Deer, a Wolf, and Porcupines. A number of pieces from her new Shadow Series that were introduced in NY are now at Hawk Ridge Farm. Wendy will show images of her most recent exhibitions and share her background.
